Please just wear the dress. I almost edited these photos to get rid of my mama belly, but then I remembered that that’s not how this works. I checked the clock earlier tonight. It read 8.45pm. For the last 24 hours, I’ve been periodically checking the time, trying to remember exactly where we were a year ago. One year ago, as of the time I am posting this, I was sitting in a hospital bed trying to make the decision of when to start the Pitocin. At this point, there was no going back, we would be having our baby, but I had been so afraid of what Pitocin would bring. After much discussion, at 2am on May 20th, they started the drip. 

Rather quickly, active labor showed itself and the most beautiful dance of hypnobirthing began. 

 I spent the next 4.5 hours, listening to my hypnobirthing affirmations, breathing, riding the waves, and my favorite part?… speaking to my baby. 

 As I said goodnight to Calvin tonight, I asked him “do you remember what you were doing one year ago?” 

I reminded him how we were worked together, how I spoke to him, how I guided him, told him how ready the world was for his presence. Labor and Calvin’s birth was the most beautiful, strong, aligned, in tune, and brave I have ever felt (and probably will ever feel, until baby number 2??) in my entire life. 

 So it is no wonder that this date, this recollection, have brought up so many emotions and I just can’t even begin to put into words (which frustrates me) how incredible this journey has been. 

 Tonight, I go to bed at peace. I go to bed remembering the way I laid in that hospital bed one year ago, forever changed. 

 See you in the morning, little one.
ONE YEAR. And to think this is only a sliver of a glimpse of what the last year has brought us. All I can say is, iPhone is going to need to come out with more phone storage to store all these photos I have/will have of you little man.
